New borders for Terrace (follow on from Japanese inspired planting)

The Brief

• A contemporary style/Japanese style of planting – to fit in with existing/new planting and overall garden design
• Low planting to allow view beyond pleached trees to main seating area and to rest of garden
• An evergreen scheme of green & non flowering plants - as far as possible
• If plants flower, white is preferable
• A very limited palette of plants
• Planting must be low maintenance/ease of care
• Avoid plants which drop petals/flower heads
• Plants provided should be relatively mature before planting
• The planting should work with the pleached hazel trees (as it will provide underplanting for the trees)
• Plants to be chosen which flourish in full sun (to left of steps as view garden from house) & partial shade (to right of steps as view garden from house)
• Suggest that planting should also be drought tolerant
• Bulbs - Alliums to be included this autumn (all bulbs to be white flowering) for interest during spring.

New borders for Terrace (follow on from Japanese inspired planting)

Planting description

An evergreen planting scheme for borders providing a back drop to a new terrace with porcelain paving. The planting has been chosen to work with the existing garden design and planting – including the new Japanese inspired planting for the raised bed - and to be suitable for both sun and partial shade. Yucca recurva provides striking and elegant focal point planting. Pittosporum tobira ‘Nanum’ with its lustrous leaves provides a contrast in texture to the Yuccas with more contrast in texture. Form is provided by the sedges Carex ‘Ice Dance’, ‘Evergold’ and ‘Everest’ together with a fern and Bergenia. Allium ‘White Giant’ will provide globes of bright white flowers in late spring. Carex ‘Everest’ with its dark green and white stripes edges the borders to work with the grey-silver of the new terrace walls.

It has been my pleasure to have engaged and worked with Rebecca in our garden re-design project.

Rebecca made many visits to our garden, discussed in detail our needs and provided examples of plants to consider. She lovingly produced planting plans to show siting of plants including an elevation drawings when needed; she even corresponded with suppliers to ensure we had what we needed to complete the project.

Rebecca has been attentive, thorough, insightful and genuinely partnering in helping us achieve our outcomes. I would highly recommend Rebecca in any gardening project you are undertaking.
